Introducing Variety in Training

This post will tackle when (and if) I think my team is ready for something new at training, in the context of building out of the back. Watch the videos in the order they are displayed, top to bottom.

Corner Kicks: Part 1

My team conceded 3 goals from corner kicks in a 4-2 loss during our first Fall league game.

In part 1 of a 2 part series I answer and explain:

  • how we conceded the goals
  • why we conceded so many goals from corners
  • how I want my team to defend corners
  • the first steps I took to address this through training

Adapting And Creating An Exercise

There is an incredible amount of content available for coaches today in books, blogs, and videos. Match footage, training diagrams, match analysis, and others all have their place in a coach's continual learning and teaching process.

Most importantly, I believe, is NOT a coach's ability to absorb all the information available, but rather to be able to synthesize their own ideas in a manner that can be succinctly communicated to players in training. Through proper training, players should start executing your vision in matches.

This is a video where I discuss the process I went through to create a 5v2 positional rondo for my players that I believe captures several distinct parts of my personal vision for my team.
